Weird Trend: Heel-less Shoes

To walk in heel-less shoes you have to transfer your weight to the ball of your foot.
Victoria Justice and Lucy Hale in Guisseppe Zanotti
Lady Gaga in Noritaka Tatehana (custom made 9-inch platforms)
Victoria Beckham in Antonio Berardi
Heel less shoes have become mainstream. Jeffery Campbell makes some nice (and scary) ones:

New Years Resolutions for 2013

I have a few suggestions for resolutions for 2013. The key to completing a resolution to focus on one instead of a long list, to set smaller goals throughout the year and to not give up on your goal no matter how bad you think you are doing. For more ideas see last year's post.

1.Use cuticle oil
Cuticle oil helps nails grow longer and stronger. It softens the cuticles and moisturizes your nail. It should be applied before the base coat of your manicure.

2. Floss more often
When was the last time you flossed? You should floss everyday. It helps clean in between your teeth making it less likely for you to develop a gum infection or bacteria buildup.

3. Clean your makeup brushes
Makeup brushes are easy place for bacteria to buildup. You might even use them for more than one product or share them with your friends. If they are not cleaned periodically (once a week), it can cause your skin to breakout. You can wash them with soap or baby shampoo for a gentler touch.
4. Do some volunteer work
This doesn't mean you have to commit to doing something once a week. You should research volunteer opportunities that interest you such as a walk for charity, planting in a garden or giving meals to the hungry.

5. Read more
Is there a book you always wanted to read but never got around to it? Books turned into movies or movies turned into books count as well. You can get more out of a book than you can out of a movie or TV show.

Nail Trend: Gel Manicure

A gel manicure is a type of manicure that uses a special gel polish and a UV light. A gel manicure lasts longer than a regular manicure because it won't chip for at least 14 days. The manicure results in nails that are not thin and weak and look shiny. The best part is that with the UV light there is little drying time.(No more waiting around, hoping your nails are dry!) The disadvantages are there is not a huge selection of colors, the UV light can be damaging to your skin (just like tanning beds), removal of the polish is hard to do by yourself (soaking or wrapping your nails in acetone) and you may have to go back to the salon and your nails can be weakened after taking them off. Nail companies like Sally Hansen and Sephora by OPI are selling their own gel manicure kits so you can create this look at home.

Top Fashion Trends of 2012

Statement Collars
Statement collars can be found as a studded or jeweled collar of a shirt or dress, or as a necklace in the shape of a collar. The advantage with statement collars is that you can use them to dress up an outfit without adding loads of jewelry.

Midriff Baring Tops
A new version of the crop top was introduced in 2012, called bralette tops. These were worn with just a sliver of skin showing underneath the top. It was most often worn with a high waist skirt.
Peplum
Peplum is basically a hanging piece o fabric at the waist. I think with peplum it can help create an hourglass figure.
Wedge Sneakers
Wedge sneakers give you the height and glam of wedges with the casualness and comfort of sneakers.
Statement Pants
Jeans and trousers were anything but basic. Pants came in a variety of prints, colors, and textures.

Top Beauty Trends of 2012

Pixie Cuts
This year many stars chopped off their locks. Vanessa Hudgens and Anne Hathaway did it for their movie roles in Gimmie Shelter and Les Miserables. Rihanna and Miley Cyrus personally decided to cut their hair because they wanted to change their look. Kellie Pickler choose to shave her head to support her friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Top Knot Bun
Loads of celebs wore their hair in a topknot bun. Miley wore her hair in a bun so often it even got its own twitter account. People started to use a sock or a bun donut to create their own perfect topknot.
Hair Color Matches Outfit
This year wild hair colors such as blue and purple were not vibrant but were in more muted tones. At red carpet events, celebs were able to match their hair color with their outfits without it looking too cartoony.

Stiletto Nails
Nails that were long and pointy or oval were a big trend for musicians. The long nails made even more room for nail art!
Ombre Hair
Ombre and dip dye locks were a trend especially for dark brown hair. It is a subtle way to go lighter without having to commit to having to dye your roots periodically.
